Honours

The system of honours for Hungarian law enforcement history

Between 1997 and 2002 the Szemere Bertalan Hungarian Law Enforcement History Scientific Society established six awards in recognition of the achievements of those who cultivate Hungarian law enforcement history. This page presents the six elements of the system of honours, indicating their foundation, purpose, classes, deeds of conferment and the bibliographic data of the deed of foundation.

The system of honours

The purpose and operation of the system of honours

In 1997 the Szemere Bertalan Hungarian Law Enforcement History Scientific Society established a system of honours founded by a civil society organisation, in recognition of the achievements of those who cultivate Hungarian law enforcement history. The honours of the system may be conferred upon those natural and legal persons who have acted in the interests of Hungarian law enforcement history.

The honours of the system for Hungarian law enforcement history may therefore be conferred not only upon members of the Szemere Bertalan Hungarian Law Enforcement History Scientific Society, but upon anyone who proves worthy of one of these awards.

The honours are generally presented at one of the conferences of the Szemere Bertalan Hungarian Law Enforcement History Scientific Society, or at another similar event, on a ceremonial occasion.

The Szemere Bertalan Hungarian Law Enforcement History Scientific Society designed the system of honours for law enforcement history in such a way that each of the principal types of activity pursued in the fostering of the field should be separately eligible for recognition. Accordingly, awards may be conferred upon the supporters of the cultivation of the field, upon collectors, upon the organisers of exhibitions and upon researchers, as well as upon those who attain the various levels of scholarly cultivation, such as the production of new research findings or the establishment of a scholarly workshop.

The Szemere Bertalan Hungarian Law Enforcement History Scientific Society takes care that, in accordance with the provisions of the deeds of foundation, the awards should be conferred upon those persons who are worthy of them. The aim is not that as many persons as possible should receive an honour, but that the worthy should receive these awards.
